Croydon Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID)
BID is a business-led initiative for Central Croydon. Businesses have been brought together to decide how to improve the environment for their employees, customers and clients.
Investment
More than £5million will be invested into Croydon Town Centre over five years to improve the competitiveness of Croydon. The overall objective is to develop its position as a leading commercial and cultural centre in the South East.
Extensive consultation with town centre businesses identified the following opportunities for improvement:
- Create a safer and more secure area
- Improve the perception and image of Croydon Town Centre
- Make Croydon Town Centre cleaner and create a more attractive environment
- Improve the accessibility to and within the area
- Act as a facilitator and collective voice for the businesses
Mondial Assistance voted “YES” to the Croydon Town Centre BID in February 2007 alongside other eligible businesses. 63% of the businesses voted in favour of the BID leading to a successful result.
Since the establishment of Croydon Town Centre BID in April 2007, Mondial Assistance has had the unique opportunity to address the needs of the area and help the BID give Croydon Town Centre a new lease of life.
Mondial Assistance is a Business Partner to Croydon Education Business Partnership, and forms part of the board of Directors
What is the Croydon Education Business Partnership?
Croydon Education Business Partnership (CEBP) is the centralised broker for education business links providing work related learning opportunities for young people aged 5 -19 in Croydon schools and colleges. It is one of 30 local EBPs in London and 126 nationally. They were formed in 1990 as a company with charitable trust status and governed by a board of directors who are senior representatives from both education and business sectors.
Business Partners
Each year over 4,000 young people in Croydon need to leave school able to earn a living and be financially literate. From the employment perspective this means learning how businesses work and developing the skills and qualities that employers need.
Business partners, like Mondial Assistance are given the opportunity to support young people on their ‘journey to work’ through their commitment and participation in CEBP’s programmes and activities that offer opportunities to learn for work, through work and about work.
EBP has an excellent reputation linking schools and colleges with the business community and supporting young people in acquiring positive attitudes through work-related learning. This is achieved through the delivery of programmes which develop young people’s understanding of the world of work whilst enhancing their employability skills.
Reading Partnership Scheme
Mondial Assistance has enjoyed a successful relationship with CEBP for at last 6 years, working on several projects such as the current Reading Partners Scheme in which staff members visit Castle Hill Primary School for an afternoon each week to read and work with children. Through CEBP, Mondial Assistance has built an extremely strong 7 year relationship with Castle Hill Primary, a school in a socially deprived area near Croydon. Mondial Assistance employees also volunteer to help local pupils in mock interview practice and skills workshops at several local schools.
Mondial Assistance feels that it is crucial to enable children and young people to develop a positive attitude so that they are equipped with employability skills and are able to take personal responsibility for their future working life and financial wellbeing.

Mondial Assistance is a founder member of Croydon Commitment
Croydon Commitment is a dynamic business-led and funded charitable organisation set-up in July 2004 by Croydon-based companies who wanted to make an impact on their local community by forging strong links with charities and voluntary groups.
It is a unique brokerage service designed to bridge the gap between the needs of the community and those of the commercial sector – identifying and facilitating activities for each company to get involved in at least 3 times a year.
Croydon Commitment members have realised that by working together as a group they have a far greater impact in Croydon, than if they concentrate separately on individual projects.
Mondial Assistance is currently working with Croydon Commitment as one of the Croydon Charity Ball committee members, which will help to ensure that the annual event is a success and will raise at least £35,000 for two nominated local charities.
Mondial Assistance has a strong and successful relationship with City of London, Rangers.
Over the past 4 years Mondial Assistance has built a strong relationship with the City of London Rangers Team at Farthing Downs and the New Hill, an area of beautiful countryside not far from our Croydon Head Office.
As well as numerous conservation project days, our staff also took part in the largest scale volunteer conservation project the Farthing Downs site has ever seen.

Over two days almost 200 Mondial managers and supervisors swept across the Downs identifying and collecting up ragwort, a plant that gradually poisons cattle. As well as benefiting the staff with fresh air, team building and a brief education on the local wildlife and conservation areas, this project has helped Mondial Assistance to give something back to the local environment.
